http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2011/03/amazon-app-store-security/

Amazon developed a new app store for android phones and installing the app opens the users phones to mal ware attacks. Users have to select the option to allow programs from “unknown sources”. Amazon says this is the only way to allow the amazon app store to be installed on the phone. This is not the first time however that  the android has had its security compromised because the official android app store is not totally secure and a hacker inject malicus code into one of the most popular free apps. However Google very quickly put out a “kill switch” that eliminated the threat. However the key issue is that third party app stores are not monitored by Google and the android using public, so threats are much more likely to happen and to go unoticed and infect multiple users.

The problem with amazons app store is also that amazon is a huge multi million dollar company with many credit cards and other important information about its users stored and that information could easily be compromised, should a hacker gain access to a unknowing users android phone. Which could potentially cause many problems and much frustration for people who could be victims of a potential hack.

Well on thursday a judge allowed sony the rights to make ISP’s give their logs of people who have visited Geohot.com and those who have downloaded PS3 hacking materials. The judges order also allows sony to obtain information on Hotz’s google, youtube, and twitter accounts. They are also going to obtain the ip address’s and computer information of anyone who visited his blog, watched is youtube video, commented on either of these things. Sony is sueing Hotz for violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and the Computer Fraud Abuse Act for distributing PS3 jailbreaking materials on his website.Hotz wasn’t even wanting to promote piracy, he just wanted to re-enable a feature Sony ILLEGALLY stole from PS3 owners, Other OS

This is going over board and Sony knows it, there is nothing wrong with what George Hotz did and I support his jailbreaking of the PS3. Sony knows that he did nothing illegal. They just don’t want to accept it that their “unhackable” console has been hacked and so they are lashing out at the nearest scapegoat. I’ll probably recieve a letter in the mail from Sony since iv been to George Hotz’s website multiple times and watched his youtube video and commented on it. Honestly I hope Sony wastes their time on the millions of people like me, considering I don’t even own a PS3. All Sony is doing is giving themselves horrible PR. Do they not think people like me read tech sites and see both sides of the coin, the side Sony is trying so hard to hide. It’s obvious others feel the same as I do because Hotz recieved over 10 thousand in legal fee donations within less than a week of asking for donations.

So, as of January 31 Sony has sold their 150 millionth Playstation 2 console. The Playstation 2 has now been on the selves for 11 years. This makes it the longest running shelf life of a console. Sony has said that there are over 10,800 available in the Playstation 2 library. 1.52 Billion software titles have been sold for the Playstation 2. Sony confirmed that a 10 year supported shelf span is the plan for all future sony consoles, to model the supported shelf life of the Playstation and Playstation 2. While the Playstation 2 does not sell very well here in America, it sells very well in third world countries such as the Middle East, South America and other third world areas. Sony states that they hope to continue this trend with the Playstation 3, they need to up their anty. The Playstation 3 is in last place here in America. The xbox360 is in first with the wii in second.

Apple released a new mac app store yesterday and they included the popular DRM (digital rights management) method of preventing piracy of their apps. Well apparently within less then 24 hours after release people have found a hack that goes around the DRM and allows the free use of apps. The hack involves using a free program like facebook or twitter and copying three files into the file of whatever they would like to use and the app becomes available free of charge instead of paying $5-$15 per app. A downloaded version of the app that the person wants to use needs to be on the person computer however. But if someone are already planning on hacking the app store and getting free app, then finding the cracked version of the app should be no problem to the person because they obviously are not not new to piracy and have done things like this before.

In my opinion these apps either need to cost less or be free. Then piracy would not be a problem. However if they plan on keeping the pricing then well apple needs to get to work and make it harder for pirates to obtain these things for free. However like the saying goes “If there is a will, then there is a way.” and people will always find a way to obtain something for free.

Credit card giant Master Card is attempting to stop allowing money to get to sites that promote piracy, from the ad’s that are on their websites. The theory of Master Card and of the United States Government is that if they do not allow websites that host pirated content to collect their money, then the website would be forced to close down. There is however one major flaw in this plan. The owner of the site can just send the code for the site to someone else in another country and they can open it there, that is a popular tactic of a website i will not name for a couple obvious reasons. Or they could just host the website in Sweden where they are NO copyright laws. If either of these two things happen then the Unites States Government would be powerless to stop these people. This tactic will not work on the worlds most popular piracy site because they do not have ad’s. They sell T-shirts instead and they are based in Sweden. It seems to me like something like this happens and the government thinks they have the pirates down for the count. But the pirates always seem to be one step ahead of the government

8 percent of all adults on the internet use twitter?!?! 8% might not sound like alot, but that is about 30-35million people.  24 percent of those adults use twitter at least several times a day. I Don’t get it, why on earth do people think that everyone else wants such details of their daily lives, like when they go to the grocery and when they get home. I personally don’t care to know the moment you go to the toilet and when you get back. I personally do not care what you ate for lunch and where you ate at. In my opinion it is sad that the world is coming to the point to where we think that we needed to know every little fascite of another persons lives. I can see using twitter for something like if you get in a car crash or am abducted or something along those lines. But posting things that have no effect on anyone elses day like when you leave the supper table is just absolutely stupid and is not necessary. Twitter is usefull for mass news networks, or a artist promoting their new tour or something, but should NOT be used by the masses.
